Luke 9:51 “Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem.” (NKJV)
Proverbs 4:25 “Keep your eyes straight ahead; ignore all sideshow distractions.” (The Message)
Last week, we looked at Luke 9:51 concerning the will of God for our Lord Jesus Christ to go to Jerusalem to purchase mankind’s redemption. He accomplished that through His death, burial, and resurrection. Jesus set an example that we should follow (see 1 Peter 2:21) in order to see God’s will accomplished in our lives. In this story in Luke 9:51-53, one major factor in our Lord’s life, was that He was not distracted from His mission while here on earth. Notice, He “steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem”. This phrase in the Greek language carries the thought to only be occupied with the mission at hand and to not be occupied with other issues.
The principle applies to us today if we are to see God’s will fulfilled in our lives. We live in a time of many distractions. Many things pull on our minds and hearts to pull us away from God’s plan for our lives. It is vitally important for us to always check what has our attention. Distractions come to all of us! Let me share with you some thoughts from the Scripture found in Proverbs 4:25 quoted above. The most important thing is keeping your focus on what draws you closer to God. Are you spending time in God’s Word (the Bible)? Do you pray regularly? What is calling your attention? Is it drawing you closer to God or is it pulling you farther from God? These are all questions that are important to maintain a healthy spiritual life and to stay on track with your earthly mission from God. Let’s get rid of the sideshow distractions!
