2 Corinthians 1:20 “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.”

Last week, I shared some thoughts concerning the phrase “For all” in the verse above. Someone, years ago, looked to see how many “God promises” existed in the Bible. That person found 8,810 times God promised in His Word! Our God is “promise giving God”. The word “all” is the sum of every promise. God delights in giving and fulfilling every promise. We can be assured that He will stand behind all of His Word.

This week,  I want to share with you the Biblical definition of the word “promise”. Its literal meaning is to announce what is fitting and appropriate, guaranteed by God, Himself. This, Biblical word, is a legal term that refers to something that is based on God’s truth that can be affirmed. A promise from God can be trusted to be real. I would like to give some Scriptures that speak about God’s promises.

Matthew 7:11 “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”

Romans 8:32 “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?”

Hebrews 6:12 “That you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”

2 Peter 1:4 “By which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

2 Peter 3:11 “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise…”

I want to encourage you to seek His promises and learn to rely on them. The Lord will cause those promises to come to pass in your life!

God Bless!
