Luke 9:51 “Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem.” (NKJV)
Our Lord set an example for us to follow to see the will of God be fulfilled in our lives. In this story in Luke 9:51-53, Jesus knew that the will of the heavenly Father was for Him to go to Jerusalem. It was in Jerusalem that Jesus Christ would purchase mankind’s redemption. Through His death, burial, and resurrection all of us can now be brought into the original created fellowship with God. Jesus knew that His time was drawing near for His redemptive work to be fulfilled. Jesus, in Luke 9:51, would not be distracted with other issues for it is said “that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem.” Jesus fulfilled God’s will as our Redeemer because He would not be distracted.
The Word tells us in 1 Peter 2:21 “For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps”. Jesus had opportunities to be distracted from fulfilling the Father’s will. Similarly, we will have distractions to change our focus from God’s destiny for our lives. We overcome distractions by seeing what Jesus did. Once again, look at Luke 9:51 “He steadfastly set” this phrase in the Greek language is defined to turn resolutely in a certain direction, solidly plant which eliminates vacillation. What a powerful definition! When we trust the Lord and keep our focus steadfastly on Him, we will see God’s mighty plan for our life come to pass.
God Bless!
