John 6:31-33 NKJV “Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’ ” Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
I want to encourage you to read from the beginning of John 6 to have a better understanding of the verses above. Chapter 6 begins with the miracle of Jesus feeding the 5,000. Out of this miracle, began a conversation between Jesus and those that He fed. The conversation was about the provision that only God can bring. Jesus left the place where this divine feeding happened to go minister to others. When the people that were fed saw that Jesus had left, they began seeking where He went. When they found Him they said, “Rabbi, when did You come here?” (John 6:25). Jesus responded to their question by saying, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.” (John 6:26). Jesus was not just interested in feeding their stomachs but also in changing their lives.
The conversation continued on and the story of manna was brought up (see Exodus 16 for context). God supernaturally fed His people in the desert. Great lessons can be learned from Biblical examples. God was faithful to provide for them as they traveled on to the promise land. Jesus began to share with them and with us today that He is our true manna from heaven. The manna that was experienced by His people coming out of Egypt was only for a certain amount of time. Jesus, our heavenly manna, is for now and eternity! Whatever you may be experiencing today, Jesus, our heavenly manna, is your answer to set you free!
