1 Timothy 4:8-9 “…Godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance.”
In our weekly word this week, I want to point out the word “promise” found in verse 8. This word is defined as the Divine promises of blessings that God speaks to us in His Word. These promises originally were given to us verbally from God’s mouth. Then, God moved on the authors of the Scriptures to write what God spoke to them. Now, we can look and observe these promises so as to not forget what He has said to us.
Another point I would like to share is the fact that these promises are connected to our present life and our eternal life. We are forever covered by His promises! Our God is a promise giver and a promise keeper! His promises exceed and are greater than anything that we may face in life. Also, his promises are the great change agent that He uses to affect our lives for good.
How do we connect with His Divine promises of blessings? First, we must know what He has said to us in these promises. When we don’t know what He has said to us it can lead us to a life far below what God has intended for us. God said to us in Hosea 4:6 that we His people are destroyed because of a lack of knowledge. He has given us His Word so we can know what God desires to do in our lives.
Secondly, when we find His promises we must build our lives around them. Live the Word, Eat the Word, Sleep the Word, and let the Word be the controlling factor in your life. God will always be faithful to fulfill what He has spoken. When we live the Word daily we will see God’s mighty hand work for us.
God bless!
